• Mrs. Klaich and Liberty's SWAT team prepare for the 21st century and help fight hunger! All at the same time!

    SWAT team

Liberty's technology club, a.k.a. the SWAT team (Students Working to Advance Technology) is an after school program aimed at working with students to find age appropriate websites and activities within the internet. It is a safe way to allow thorough knowledge of technology appropriate for their grade level. Mrs. Klaich begins by introducing websites that she has learned about and explored. Then the students are allowed on various devices, such as iPads and desk-top computers, to explore these websites through Mrs. Klaich's school page. The overall goal is to prepare our students to become 21st century learners! Mrs. Klaich's goal is to better prepare the students so that they can fully benefit from the ever changing technology driven economy.

As stated by the National Academies "The danger exists that Americans may not know enough about science, technology, or mathematics to contribute significantly to, or fully benefit from, the knowledge-based economy that is already taking shape around us."

One website that they explored was freerice.com. This website allows them to play a vocabulary game and for each word they define correctly the site donates 10 grains of rice through the World Food Programme to help end hunger. The students were given the opportunity to help the fight against hunger and choose to donate!
