ALEX BATISTATOSSchool City of Hobart SeniorClass of 2016
The Hobart High School Baseball program is proud to announce that senior infielder/pitcher Alex Batistatos has signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball on scholarship at Purdue University Calumet. Alex joins classmates Tyler Kenjic (Purdue Calumet), and Braden Niksich (Illinois State) as the next in a growing list of Hobart Baseball players to transition to the collegiate level since Coach Bob Glover took over the program in 2010.
Alex has been a standout player during his career at Hobart High School. A three-year starter for the Brickies, Alex started in right field as a sophomore before splitting his junior season between second base, shortstop, and center field. He has also been a regular member of Hobart’s pitching staff since his sophomore year.
Alex made an immediate impact on the Brickies during his sophomore season as a starter on Hobart’s 2014 Regional Finalist team. Alex set Hobart’s single season records for fewest walks by a pitcher (four) and most singles (37). His excellent all around contributions helped fuel one of the top teams in Indiana, and earned him recognition as one of the area’s best players in the Class of 2016. Alex was selected as Second Team All Northwest Crossroads Conference and All Area Honorable Mention in both the Times and the Post-Tribune.
As a junior in 2015, Alex solidified his status as one of Hobart’s leaders. He was voted by his coaches and teammates as the team’s Most Valuable Player as a result of his excellent offensive, defensive, and pitching contributions. He was also selected as First Team All Northwest Crossroads Conference and Second Team All Area in both the Times and Post-Tribune.
Alex verbally committed to play baseball at Purdue University Calumet in February of 2016. Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central on are on the verge of a merger of their athletic departments which will be complete for the 2016-17 school year. He signed his National Letter of Intent in February and will join the Peregrines for the 2017 season. His versatility will give him the opportunity to compete for playing time as an infielder, outfielder, and pitcher.
Alex has worked very hard to achieve the academic and athletic success necessary to play collegiate baseball. The School City of Hobart would like to congratulate him on his success and wish him well in his future endeavors.
