    English/LA Curriculum are based on the Indiana Academic Standards, Common Core Standards and Literacy Shifts.

     


     
     Grade 6 English Language Arts Curriculum utilizes the Scholastic Expert 21 Program, READ 180 and System 44.  
     
    Scholastic's Expert 21 - 6th Grade Literature Program 

    7th and 8th Grade English Language Arts Curriculum utilizes the College Board, SpringBoard Program, READ 180 and System 44. 

     
     All English/Language Arts Courses use Dr. Marzano's Building Academic Vocabulary.  

     

    Reading Enrichment Courses

    Hobart Middle School offers an 9 week enrichment course to 6th, 7th and 8th grade.  These courses are built from the Indiana State Standards with emphasis on reading Informational Text and literature.  Students have an in depth study of each type of reading to support students to read more challenging text and analyze author point of view with support from the readings.

    Scholastic READ 180 Program 

    READ 180 is a comprehensive system of curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development proven to raise reading achievement for struggling readers in Grades 4–12+. READ 180 is designed to maximize student engagement, teacher effectiveness, and leader empowerment.
     
    READ 180 is a tiered reading intervention used at the elementaries, middle and high school. 
    READ 180 is organized into three stages.
    Stage A-  Elementary/ Grades 4 and 5
    Stage B-  Middle School
                6th grade: READ 180 Original Book 
                7th grade: READ 180 Flex Book
                8th grade: READ 180 Flex 2 Book  
    Stage C-  High School
     
     
    Scholastic SYSTEM 44 
    System 44: Foundational Reading & Phonics Program
    System 44 is the breakthrough foundational reading and phonics intervention technology program for our most challenged readers in Grades 3–12+. System 44's state-of-the-art adaptive technology delivers direct, explicit foundational reading and phonics instruction as well as engaging, high-interest print materials for student practice in reading, writing, and spelling.
