    Internet Safety is taught to all students at the School City of Hobart.

    Internet Safety Program - K-2

    Grades K-2 will watch a video on Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship from Brainpop, Jr. together. In addition to the video, teachers will discuss with students how to be safe while using digital devices and the Internet.

    Internet Safety Program - 3-5
    The Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship lessons teach students how to be positive digital citizens and aligns with Common Core and NETS standards. Grades 3-5 will use these lessons and take the pledge.

    Internet Safety Program - 6-12
    Below are the topics and videos that students will see during Internet Safety Lessons at school.  Parents/Guardians should preview these videos so conversations at home can continue. We want all of our students to be safe.
     
    Cyberbullying: You Can't Take Back

    This lesson focuses on a group of students that shared inappropriate comments about other students. Later, these comments are shared with all students by a peer. This resulted in many hurt feelings and the message that you can't take back comments that are posted or sent online.  Individuals must "think before they post."

    Terrible Text

    This lesson focuses on a student receiving text from a friend's ex-girlfriend.  The video and discussion that students will have is centered around appropriateness of texts and how to handle messages that are hurtful.  The need to tell and ask for help from an adult is stressed.

    Tracking Teresa 

    The lesson titled, Tracking Teresa, demonstrates how easily an individuals' identity can be traced back to a person's home address, phone and family names.  Students need to be very careful of the information that they display in emails, chat rooms, discussion boards, and Facebook.
