Foreign language instruction begins in 6th grade with the World Language Exploratory 6 class.  Students learn how the English language has borrowed many words from foreign languages, especially French, Spanish, and others.  They are also introduced to some basic vocabulary in both languages and learn to respond to greetings in the languages.

7th graders will experience a true language class in French and Spanish.  They will be exposed to each language for four and a half weeks.   Basic vocabulary and conversational phrases are introduced.

8th graders may choose a whole first year language class in either French, German or Spanish.  The students in these classes have demonstrated their language abilities in the 7th grade class and in their language arts skills.  These students may pursue their chosen language when they continue on to the high school. The French and Spanish classes this year will count for high school credit
