Dear Joan Martin Parents & Families,

Welcome back to school. My name is Holly Tilford and I am excited to be your child’s first grade teacher this year. This is my third year teaching and my second year teaching first grade at Joan Martin. I have several fun activities for your kiddos and I to get to know each other and lots of other exciting adventures planned throughout the year.

My husband Scott and I have 2 amazing kids, Savannah (17) and Luke (13). We are a very active family that loves to spend time outdoors, riding bikes, running road races, competing in triathlons and spending time on the shores of Lake Michigan. Savannah will graduate from High school this year where she is the Student Council President, senior class president and is cadet teaching. She is also looking forward to starting college next fall to become a teacher! Luke is starting eighth grade and runs cross county, track and has begun competing in triathlons!

I am a graduate of Purdue University, West Lafayette where I earned a BA in Sociology and Psychology. I began my professional career in community mental health and social service working at Porter Starke, Porter County Prosecutors Victim’s Assistance and Madison Center. When my son started elementary school I began volunteering and subbing at his school and was hooked on teaching! I went back to college where I earned a BS degree in Elementary Education from Calumet College.

You will find LOTS of information in your parent packet. Please keep the folder and fill out and return the important forms. Please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have or that come up throughout the year.
