    INDEPENDENT READING

Studies show that students who read for pleasure are more likely to:
    • have higher test scores.
    • be admitted into institutions of higher learning.
    As adults they:
    • are more productive citizens.
    • earn more money.
    • experience lower unemployment rates.
All of my sophomore students are taking part in our independent reading program.

Semester grades will reflect how much time and effort they have put into their reading.

The independent novel must be brought to every English class and study hall.

Student keep track of their reading in their reading log and will write an in-class paper over their novel at the end of each nine week period.

Students are to be reading their novels in study hall if they do not have other homework to do.
