Course description:

            This course is an introductory course that is the study the physical relationship between matter and energy in the universe.  This course is intended to prepare you for a college level physics course and will be taught as such.  Material covered will include motion (in one and two dimensions as well as circular), momentum, planetary motion, energy (including potential, kinetic, thermal, and nuclear), work and machines, waves, and electricity.   This course counts toward two credits needed to obtain a core 40 diploma.

CLASS RULES AND GUIDELINES

1. Everyone is to be treated with respect.  Failure to do so will result in negative consequences.

2. Come prepared to class at all times.  This means you should always have with you:

*  Your text book

*     A pencil

*     A scientific calculator

*     Your notebook

*     Graph paper

3. You are responsible for making sure that you learn the intended material.  I will do everything in my power to make sure that you do, but the bottom line is that you must be willing to put forth the effort.

4. If you have a question, ASK IT.  Odds are you are not the only person with the question.  Shyness is not an excuse when it comes to your education.  Looking stupid is not an excuse when it comes to your education.  The best students are not necessarily the ones with the most ability the best students are the ones that dont allow image to interfere with outcome.

5. The course is meant to be both informative and interesting.  Will everything be interesting?  No, but it is necessary.

HOMEWORK

1. Sometimes class work will be turned in during the hour that it was given, sometimes it will be turned in at the beginning of the next hour.  Any assignment not turned in THE MINUTE it is due is considered late.

2. Assignments that are turned in late will receive ½ credit.  Any assignment not turned in is a zero.

3. The make-up work policy is as it is written in the handbook.  If you are absent one day, you have one day to make up the work.  If you are absent the day an assignment was to be turned in, it is due the next day that you are back.

4. Tests are to be made up on your own time (study hall, lunch, before school).  Time will NOT be given to make up a test during the class hour.

5. The grading scale is the school approved scale:

100+ :  A+

92-99 : A

90-91 : A-

88-89 : B +

82-87 : B

80-81 : B-

78-79 : C+

72-77 : C

70-71 : C-

68-69 : D+

62-67 : D

60-61 : D-

below 60: F

There will be no rounding of grades.  79.99 % is not 80 %.

6. The grades will be weighted so that 40 % of your grade will come from homework and labs;  40 % will come from tests and quizzes ; and 20 % will come from the final exam.
